... drug addicted psyche.

this was taken several weeks back while i was going through horrible withdrawl symptoms from being taken off the antidepressant effexor xr (i am going through an extreme med change). while it in itself is not a narcotic or stimulant for some reason for many people horrible withdrawls come with getting off the medication. in one study done for the FDA it is in the top 15 most dangerous drugs on the market. i was on this medicine for 5 years at a dose of 300mg. i am one of the lucky ones i guess because some people aren't able to get off of it because they can not make it through the withdrawls. in serious cases some people have compared it to heroin addiction and withdrawl.

the withdrawl symptoms i had and still have just more bearable now were/are:

-electrical zaps under the skin mainly in the face lips and extremities
-joint pain
-muscle pain and cramps
-horrible stomach pain
-intense head aches
-rage
-manic episodes
-memory loss
-extreme exhaustion
-anxiety attacks
-rapid mood swings
-agitation
-confusion
-sweats
-chills

this is on top of my primary disorder/illness, but this particular photo is not about my illness per say.
now that you know all of that, i will let the image speak for itself.

:bulletred: i was under a physician's care while getting off effexor and gradually was weaned off. if you decide you do not want to take it anymore do NOT just stop and do not do it cold turkey. consult your doctor first and follow his/her instructions

Strong image and very strong words. This is what I love about photography and the written word -- especially when coupled together as you've done here.

Thank you ~~

I'm so impressed that you were able to get off your medicine like that. I know how hard it is to face those kind of withdrawals. I haven't told anyone but I was beginning to get addicted to my oxycodone. I had to make myself stop as soon as I got the headaches from skipping a pill. The few days I had to spend in pain and in constant shaking and headaches were well worth what I think could have happened had I continued with them. I still have 7 left and I just.. I don't know what I would be like if I'd have had to be on something that strong for so long. Anyways. I love this picture. I love the cool colors and the abstractness that leaves me guessing at what it is. Makes me think of bedsprings in a mattress. :) You're so talented! :glomp:

i tried once before to do it but i couldn't. it was too hard. this time my doctor put my on pristiq which is brand new and derived from effexor. it was hard but it seemed to not be quite as bad well, it was horrible for three weeks but started to become a bit more tolerable on the fourth week. maybe since it was derived from effexor it can be a stepping stone for those whom have tried without success to get off effexor in the past?
once on the pristiq and the withdrawls were somewhat manageable i told him i wanted off the pristiq and as far away from effexor and it's derivatives as possible (plus the pristiq didn't seem to be working). so now i am right in the beginning of a huge medication change. off the pristiq on a new anti-depressant, Cymbalta, upped my lamictal and my xanax and most likely will add abilify to the cocktail in a month or so. lets hope for the best!
i know it is hard to get off the pain killers, although i have not had to go through it yet, my brother has. and well for all purposes my body is addicted to xanax, i have been taking 2mg of the extended release pills everyday for 5 years. plus i take the normal ones if i have an anxiety attack. i know my body is addicted, so does my doctor. we talked about it even before he put me on it. we already have a plan in place for when i am at the point i feel as if i do not need it anymore. i know it won't be easy but i have faith especially since i have gone through the effexor withdrawls.

by the way those are little springs from various things around the house, plus some springs i made myself ;)

Wow. I got prescribed Xanax for anxiety attacks at a low dose but now I'm nervous. :< I don't want to get addicted to anything! I absolutely hate taking medicine. The only thing I love taking is birth control.

Yeah, I don't take it every day. Only if I have a panic attack she said to take the edge off. =\ Oh that was a good link! Thanks, hun. <3
